Hello Risa,

Thank you for your kind words.

Definitely, self-driving is the way to go - the country is so large and
there is no real public transport infrastructure, only some luxury trains
and a bus system which everyone has told me is just about utilitarian, but
not really viable.

Cape Town: I personally love Oranjezicht, an older part of town, going up
Table Mountain. There are some lovely guest houses there (de Tafelberg is a
favorite, as is Redbourne Hilltop), reasonably priced with gorgeous views of
the Bay. On the other side of the mountain is Constantia, very much the
garden part of CT; I just visited friends who were staying at Villa
Coloniale - just gorgeous. You must absolutely visit Kirstenbosch Botanical
Garden, even if you are not into Bot. Gardens, this is a most beautiful
park. And then drive down to Cape Point, stopping at just after Simonstown
to the Boulders and look at the penguins. Be sure to take the second
viewing point - you won't have to walk much and don't have to pay 35 Rand
entrance fee to the visitors center.
Come back the back way around Chapman's Peak Drive (spectacular), the Twelve
Apostles and Camps Bay.

Along the Garden Route: Stellenbosch, Paarl, Franschoek, Hermanus,
Robertson, Montagu, Elim, Cape Argulhas, Wilderness, Knysna, Plettenberg
Bay, the Tsitsikamma Forest, Jeffrey's Bay, Port Elizabeth, Addo. That is,
if you are going that far. Otherwise, to Plettenberg Bay is enough and then
you can turn around and come back via Oudtshoorn - getting there via the
Outeniqua Pass by George is particularly spectacular in scenery.

Must dash now - my transportation to Swapokmund is about to arrive.
Keep in touch and let me know. Be sure to plan time - the distances are
longer than you think. The above routing can easily take you at least a
week.

Warmest regards,
Zenaida

Hello Zenaida - What a glorious adventure you are on - I so admire your
spirit! I too am a solo traveler but have never been to South Africa. I have
left things somewhat loose and wanted to explore the garden route. Did you
self drive? Can you tell me just a couple of places you enjoyed on the
Garden Route? Where are you in Namibia now?
Congratulations on the London Times article!!
